Department Of Civil Engineering
Civil Engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works such as bridges, roads, canals, dams and buildings. Civil engineering is the oldest engineering discipline after Military engineering, and it was defined to distinguish non-military engineering from military engineering. It is traditionally broken in to several sub-disciplines including environmental engineering, geo technical engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering, surveying etc. Civil engineering takes place on all levels; from Govt., Semi Govt, state & urban bodies to private sector and MNC`s.
Objective
• Making department the best place of learning that provides total education based on thorough fundamental theory concepts and application of the same through advanced practices and experiments.
• Creating the environment that ensures emergence of the fullest potential and ability to research in the students.
Why Civil Engineering?
A crystal clear purpose of engineering and technology is to serve mankind in the most sustainable way. Civil Engineering is one of the core engineering disciplines which takes care of utmost basic need of living being on the planet. Its functional importance can be easily realized as the entire construction technology aspect has been thoroughly discussed in “Shala Suktam” of Atharva Veda. According to modern business management principles and theories of economics, products or services which directly align with basic needs of the people are the most promising. Looking at UN millennium development goals – prior and post 2015, large scale infrastructural development is expected at global level, which is possible only with technological advancement of Civil Engineering.
What’s Civil Engineering All About?
This is the discipline of engineering that encompasses the widest range of personal and public utility works across the globe. This includes design, construction and maintenance of residential buildings, commercial buildings, industrial structures, bridges, highways, waterways, tunnels, dams, canals, airports, docks, transmission towers, sanitary works, drainage system and traffic control systems. For successful and efficient commencement of these works, the entire civil engineering system has been founded on various core sectors like: Research, Planning, Analysis, Design, execution of work and maintenance of work coping up with legal policies and acts. The most important emerging need of the time is disaster management. The sector is also being looked after by Civil engineering technocrats.
Future of Civil Engineering
Innovation is the mantra of current generation. With a view to achieving inclusive growth, pattern of linear thinking is gradually losing its popularity. Scope of creativity is unlimited in the field of Civil Engineering. Creative and unique building design, use of alternative materials to preserve exhaustible resources, novel ideas to strengthen disaster management system, energy management through green building concept are the areas which play a key role in building glorious future of civil engineering. UNDSD is continuously planning and aiming for the activities which promote sustainable development only. Construction industry is one of the major pillars of World’s economy hence the 3 I formula : Impact through Innovation to achieve Inclusive growth shall be very well implemented through civil engineering.
